Honouring Grace O’Malley-Kumar – A Bike Meet of Remembrance

You may have seen on BBC News that Nottinghamshire Blood Bikes has the profound honour of being invited to a special Remembrance Event for Grace O’Malley-Kumar, taking place on Sunday 1st June at 11:00am, at DC One, Edinburgh Way, Harlow, CM20 2BN. On Sunday 19th May 2024, we proudly led a Ride of Remembrance from North Weald Airfield, Essex to Newark Showground, Nottinghamshire in memory of Grace – a remarkable young woman, medical student, and fellow biker – who tragically lost her life while heroically protecting her friend in the early hours of 13th June 2023.

At this emotional event, we were deeply moved to unveil a new Blood Bike named “Grace” in her honour. (Pictured) This bike has and will continue to serve communities across Nottinghamshire, carrying her name and legacy wherever it goes – delivering urgent medical supplies on behalf of the NHS, and continuing Grace’s commitment to helping others.

Grace had already shown her dedication to public service during the COVID pandemic, volunteering as a vaccinator and riding her Vespa to clinics – caring for others when many were afraid. The biker community stands proudly with her memory, recognising her as one of our own.

Without hesitation we accept the invitation and are humbled to attend the upcoming Biker Meet in Harlow to remember Grace. Many of our members will be making the journey on their own time and at their own expense, not at the cost of the charity.

We warmly extend an invitation to anyone in Nottinghamshire who would like to join us in convoy to Harlow.

🗓️ Meet-up: Saturday 31st May at 11:00am

📍 Location: Morrisons, Netherfield

🏍️ Departure: 12:00 noon (convoy to Harlow)
